We bought this house in 2016… and the backyard cam We bought this house in 2016… and the backyard came with a 30’ satellite dish 😬 (obviously the first thing to go!) It had lots of perks: it was huge, backed onto a creek… but it was completely unusable (also mildly terrifying with little kids because it was so un-level). We tried to clean it up at first, but in 2020 we realized if we were going to spend all our time at home…we wanted to actually love it! So we decided to go all in! What followed was 3 years of: – ripping up pavers and concrete stairs – cutting down trees – renting heavy machinery – regrading the entire yard instead of rebuilding the crumbling retaining wall – installing a fibreglass pool 🏊 – pouring A LOT of concrete (this one hurt 💸) – planting over 30 hydrangeas – building a structure… and abandoning it for a year so we could buy a van 👶🏼 – then finally finishing it with an outdoor kitchen! We were quoted $250–300k to do this by local landscaping companies. By doing as much as we could ourselves, we saved well over $150k! It took way longer than we planned. It was way more work than we expected. And it cost way more than we would have liked! But now…it’s our favourite place to be! ☀️ Would we do it again? In a heart beat!
