The Best Faux Florals for Spring

My birthday falls on the first day of spring and my favourite gift every year are the bundles of tulips my girls pick out for me. Fresh flowers (especially tulips) bring me so much joy and are the first sign of spring in our home. However, flowers die, my cat eats them, and my husband gets annoyed at the mess they make! It can also get pretty spendy, buying $20 worth of flowers every week (SO jealous of my US friends who don’t know how good they have it with Trader Joe’s flower selection). So I set out to find the best FAUX florals for spring that would bring me that “spring is here” joy, without the mess and with an infinite lifespan.

Faux Tulips

Obviously I had to start with my favourite. These come in a variety of colours (I got the white and the pink), are soft to the touch, and look shockingly real. I would avoid putting these in a glass vase as it will be pretty obvious that they are faux with no water in the vase. My favourite vessel for tulips is actually in my antique crock, however I love how they look in this gold vase in my hallway. TIP: Make sure to bend some of the stems to get that natural tulip “flop.” I also pulled the leaves off of maybe a third of my stems to make them more realistic.

PROS: Super affordable for the amount you get (20 stems in a bundle), bend nicely and you can remove leaves to make them look even better

CONS: The coloured versions don’t look AS real (the white look better IMO)

Faux Snowball Viburnum

These snowball/hydrangea are the most expensive of all the faux stems I got but they sure are pretty. The leaves are a really natural green colour and the flower petals are so soft and realistic. They have a few colour options but I love the white and green. One package has 4 stems however for a fuller look I think 6-8 stems would look best in a large vessel.

PROS: They look SO realistic

CONS: I don’t think 4 stems is enough for my vase, the most expensive at $35-$40 CAD for 4 stems

Faux Forsythia

Forsythia is another one of those “first signs of spring” flower. I usually cut forsythia from my neighbour’s bush that overhangs our fence, however the petals die quickly and make a big mess. I am SO impressed with these faux branches. They look so real, right down to the little green petals at the end.

PROS: I’m obsessed! They look so real and are super affordable at $20 for 4 stems

CONS: Literally none. Well my husband would disagree on that because he hates having them in his sightline while prepping dinner at the island!

Faux Poppies

These white poppies are another great option. They have a fuzzy stem that look pretty realistic although does make a bit of a mess when you first open the package. Each stem has quite a few blooms on them so you can fill a vase easily. These would also look beautiful in a mixed flower arrangement.

PRO: The petals look so realistic and there are quite a few blooms for the price

CONS: The fuzzy stems do make a bit of a mess when rearranging them

Faux Greenery

And if you’re just looking for some simple greenery, these stems are great. They are quite substantial so two stems fills a very large vessel. A great, budget friendly option!

PROS: Really substantial size for the price!

CONS: They aren’t the most realistic looking up close, but look fine from afar.

Now tell me, are you making the switch to faux florals for spring?
